“ This historic site/restaurant is filled with over a hundred years of food and tradition. This is one of Alabama's iconic restaurants that celebrities, politicians, and the people of Montgomery have enjoyed through the years. It maintains the diner style reminiscent of the early and mid twentieth century. No tour of Downtown Montgomery is complete without a trip here. That said, because this is pretty much a time capsule from 1950, the food is very basic compared to modern food. Dining here is much more about experiencing history than anything else. ”

It may appear in a bit of disrepair, but the service is excellent and the classic hot dogs with mustard, onions, kraut, and special chili sauce are worth the visit. Street parking has meters powered by a worthless app; payment may not be required based on the time of your visit. Close to other historic locations. ”

I stopped by in mid April, 2025 and ordered the hot dog/hamburger combo. It was absolutely spot on as good as ever. That sauce is incredible. I am taking a quart of it home. The service was the tops. Eleanor "bang bang" Williams has been an employee at Chris' for 42 years and is a treasure. Her memory when taking orders is legendary. I love Chris hot dogs. Keep it going! Atmosphere is what you would expect in a very old establishment. I mean, the place has been there since 1917, so this is not a modern restaurant. It hasn't changed in 100 years other than the prices. ”
